RC-100 / RC-100Z

 RC-100 INTRO###

RC-100 Introduction##

RC-100 is?

RC-100 is a robot exclusive remote controller for robots, such as Bioloid and OLLO.

Product  Main Controller  Remote Control (IR) Zigbee Control
 OLLO  CM-100  RC-100 + IR Receiver  + ZIG-110Set
 BIOLOID Premium  CM-510  RC-100 + IR Receiver  + ZIG-110 Set
 BIOLOID  CM-5  N/A  + ZIG-100 Set

Ergonomic Design

RC-100 has been elegantly designed to suit both children and adults.

Various Wireless Communication

RC-100 has 2 wireless communication methods. Its basic method is the IR communication but can be expanded into a powerful zigbee control.

You can simply purchase the RC-100Z, or separately purchase the ZIG-100 or which includes the ZIG-100.

Various Channels

RC-100 has 8 IR channels. Thus, a maximum of 8 people can control their robots simultaneously.

RC-100 Exterior Description##

RC-100 has 4 direction buttons, 6 function buttons, 1 power/mode button, 2 LED, and an IR transmitter.

 Battery Insertion##

Insert the batteries into the RC-100 with the following steps.

  RC-100 DIRECTIONS ###

 Basic Function##

Power ON     Press the POWER/MODE button once to turn on. The LED will blink and turn on.

Power Save Mode   The RC-100 will automatically turn off if not in use for about 3 minutes.

Channel Selection##

Channel?                         When several RC-100 remote controllers are being used, each robots should be set to the correct channel to avoid interference. The RC-100 and robots each have channels through which they can communicate.

Changing Channel              The default setting is to channel 1. To change the channel, while pressing the POWER/MODE button, press the desired channel number for 1 or 2 seconds.  The picture below shows all the uses of the buttons.(Please refer to the OLLO User’s Guide for directions on changing the robot’s channel.)

Channel Status                  If you want to check the current channel status, press on the #5 and #6 function button together. A green LED will blink according to the current channel number. Meaning, if it blinks 4 times, it is on channel 4.

Wireless Control Principal##

Wireless Control Principal   The wireless communication between the RC-100 and robot can be referred to as a promise. Each buttons on the RC-100 have their unique numbers on them. Pressing on each button will send its respective signal to the robot as promised(programmed).  (For programming, please refer to 2-4.)

For example, when you press on the [U] button, it sends #1 and when you press the [3] button it sends #64. If you press on two or more buttons, the RC-100 will add all these and send that total #(number) to the robot. For example, if you press the [U] and [3] button together, it will be #65 since it’s #1 + #64.

Function Button Expansion    If you add ZIG-100 onto your RC-100, you may use the below buttons markers as numbers 5 and 6 as function buttons.

Programming##

Behavior Control Program    When controlling robots (Bioloid, OLLO, etc..) using the RC-100, numbers are being sent from the RC-100 to the robot in order to connect to the correct motion. For example, if you want the robot to move forward when pressing the[U]button on the RC-100, you will have to program so that it will send a certain number to the robot when pressing the [U] button.

The below is an example of the RC-100 sending a certain number(command) to the robot and the robot receiving this number. Please refer to the BIOLOID User’s Guide for more information.

UPGRADE TO RC-100Z###

RC-100Z Introduction##

RC-100Z is?                        The RC-100Z is a remote controller with a ZIG-110 used for wireless control.

Upgrade Method                   When inserting the ZIG-110 or ZIG-100, it will automatically be upgraded from an IR communication to zigbee communication method.

(Please refer to the picture below, When purchasing the RC-100Z, please note the ZIG-100 is already inserted)

 RC-100Zconcept.jpg

ZIGBEE communication is?

ZIGBEE communication is one of the short distance wireless communication method capable of making thousands of channels for efficiency.

This application is best suitable when several people are using the same remote controller in a same space.

IR communication encounters communication problems when an obstacle comes between the controller and robot.

However, the zigbee communication uses RF (radio frequency) thus it does not become a problem.

RC-100Z Directions##

ZIG-110 set ID

The ZIG-110 set is composed of a ZIG-100 and Zig-1110. They each have their own unique, thus in order to communicate with each other, they must know each other’s ID.

By setting the other’s ID they are capable of 1:1 communication .(The IDs of the ZIG-110 have already been set by ROBOTIS.)

ID Setting

If you wish to use another ZIG-100/ZIG-110 to communicate., you will need to re-set the ID using the behavior control Program.

Please refer to the ‘Bioloid User’s Guide’ or ‘OLLO User’s Guide’ for more information on the setting method.

Function Button

Buttons #5~#6 which were not used during the IR communication method, will now be

used in the RC-100Z. Each function button sends out the below numbers.

Programming

The programming method for the RC-100Z is the same as the RC-100.
